Sulapac Receives the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification
Environmental management has always been an essential part of our operations. The Sulapac® material innovation has been developed to tackle a major environmental problem – plastic waste – and the principles of sustainable development guide us in everything we do. Adopting the ISO 14001 standard for environmental management helps us to measure and improve our environmental impact even further.
In May 2020 Sulapac received the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification. The international standard ISO 14001 sets out the requirements for an environmental management system and helps companies to identify, manage, monitor and control their environmental impacts.
“The ISO 14001 helps us to work in a systematic manner to improve our environmental performance. It’s especially exciting that this includes not only our footrprint but also our handprint, which means how we can help other companies and consumers in reducing their footprint”, outlines Sulapac’s Sustainability Director Maija Pohjakallio.
Sulapac’s environmental management system was audited and certification granted by Kiwa Inspecta, an international testing, inspection and certification organization.
“It was a delight to review a company where the environmental theme is exceptionally strongly present in the processes throughout the organization”, comments Timo Soininen, Lead Auditor at Kiwa Inspecta.
“Acting to preserve our natural environment is in the core of Sulapac’s philosophy”, explains Pohjakallio, “and to make sure all the relevant environmental challenges and opportunities are identified and considered along every step of the value chain, it is extremely useful to have a tool like ISO 14001”, she continues.
The ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification supports and compliments the ISO 9001 Quality Management Certification which Sulapac has had since 2018. “Together these systems help us to constantly improve all Sulapac’s operations and fulfill our mission in saving the world from plastic waste”, concludes Kati Häyhä, Quality Manager at Sulapac.
